Llion Jones is one of the more mysterious researchers who were involved with the 2017 Transformer paper. How he ended up in Japan founding Sakana.ai is an interesting side note for an AI Startup watcher like me.

Sakana is a weird butterfly in the landscape of Generative AI startups. The Tokyo-based “R&D company” on a quest to create a new kind of foundation model based on nature-inspired intelligence
